An Overview Of Concrete Stamping Process
The stamping process entails a lot of stages, all which must run within a limited period of time. Contrary to other decorative processes like staining, the whole stamping process needs to be finished before the slabs set. So, this job requires highly experienced contractors who are prepared and organized. This is something our company recognizes and we only employ the best professions to make sure that our clients get exquisite services. We deal with all project sizes. For bigger projects, the stamping layout is planned for beforehand with the tools set ready for work, and ensuring that there is sufficient manpower for the job. If you call us on (209) 600-7358, this is the job our contractors will do.
Step #1: Color Hardener Application
When concrete attains the ideal plasticity, color hardener is sprinkled evenly. 10 minutes are allowed for the first layer of the hardener to absorb water and then bull floating is done to get it inside the concrete surface. The second shake is then applied in a similar manner to make sure that there is full coverage.
Step #2: Application of a Release Agent
Before stamping a powdered release is applied using a dry brush by flicking. Excess build-up is avoided as it interferes with the imprints of light textures. The rationale for applying release agent is to add some color and break the bond so that stamping mats do not stick to concrete and spoil the imprints. A liquid release agent can also be used with a sprayer to ensure even distribution on the concrete surface. If tint is to be used, it should be added at least a day before so that the pigment dissolves completely.
Step 3#: Testing for Plasticity
It is imperative that the concrete reaches the correct plasticity degree. If stamping is done hastily before the concrete becomes sufficiently firm, it will not be in a position to support a well-established imprint. On the other hand, if it is done too late, a lot of efforts would be needed and little or no texture will be produced. To test if the concrete is ready, a contractor presses their finger inside at various spots to see if clean imprints of about 0.19 to o.25 are established. The other method of testing involves putting a stamp on the concrete surface and then stepping on it. If the stamp withstands the weight without sliding or sinking too much, it is good for stamping.
Step #4: Pre-texturing Slab Perimeter
This is done around the slabs. A flex mat or texturing skin is used to pre-texture the slabs for around 6’’-12’’ inwards. This helps in attainment of the desirable texture and color produced by the release agent.
Step #5: Stamping the Slabs
Mat tools are used to stamp the slabs in the same sequence they were installed. The first row is done first before moving to the rest. Sufficient stamps are put in place to ensure consistency. The first row is very critical because it sets the benchmark for subsequent rows and so it should be straight. A straight string can be used for accuracy. Two or three professionals are required for this job. As the placement of stamps goes on, one technician uses a hand roller to polish the joints and correct any mistakes.
Finishing
Detailing is done accordingly. Several polishing activities are done as follows:
